CHAPTER 1
WATER CYCLE

EXERCISE

QUESTION FOR WRITTEN WORK

Answer the following questions in brief:

(1) What is water cycle?

Ans.
When it rains some water soaks into the ground and some of it collects , forming streams and rivers that eventually flow into the sea. The water that falls as ran is constantly recycled because water can change from a liquid to a gas and back to a liquid again.

(2) what are the main components of water cycle?

Ans.
Evaporation , condensation , precipitation , collection are the four main components.

(3) Write the process of evaporation in brief.

Ans.

i) The process in which water gets converted into vapour to the heat of the sun is called evaporation.

ii) The heat of the sun cause water evaporate the oceans , seas , rivers , lakes , ponds.

iii) The lower temperature lower the rate of evaporation.

iv) The higher temperature the rate of evaporation is also higher.

(4) Write the names of the steps of the water cycle.

Ans .
Evaporation, compression and liquidation , condensation, runoff are some of the steps of water cycle.

(5) write in brief about the convectional/convergent rainfall.

Ans.

i) Conventional rainfall occurs when surface of the Earth is heated up by the sun.

ii) The warm surface also heats up the air.

iii) As the air rises it cools down and begins to condensate.

iv) further rising and cooling causes a large amount of condensation to occur and rain is formed.

(6) what are the factors that affects seepage and runoff?

Ans.

Some of the factors are follows:

i) Type of precipitation

ii) Rainfall intensity

iii) Rainfall amount

iv) Rainfall duration.
