Answer the following questions in brief:

(1)What is water management?

Ans.
Water management is an activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water resources. It is a subset of water cycle management.


(2)Explain the relationship between water and living organisms.

Ans.

i) The earth is described as 'Bahuratna Vasundhara'. Water is one of the most important natural resources among the gems on earth.

ii) All living things on earth are made of water.

iii) The source of life for plants and animals is water.

iv) No living thing is able to live without water.


(3) How is the intensity of water scarcity divided according to Falcon criteria?

Ans.

i) According to the Falcon criteria, the region is considered to be in good water condition only if more than 1700 cubic metres of water is available per capital year.

ii) If the annual per capita availability of water is less than 1000 cubic metres, it is considered as a condition of scarcity of water. Are white scarcity of water affects the standard of living of people.


(4) Give an example of equal availability of water for use despite the same amount of rainfall.

Ans.
One of the major examples of unequal distribution is the Kaveri river that initially ran across the state of Tamilnadu and Karnataka , yet is today is distributed among three states and one union territory.


(5) Why is groundwater depleted?

Ans.
In our country, farmers traditionally draw water from wells to irrigate farmland. At many times what is used excessively or is wasted. This decrease groundwater level. Groundwater reserves in India are rapidly declining due to depletion of such abundant water for irrigation.


(6) What is the relationship between health and urbanization?

Ans.

i) Increasing urbanization in the basin is followed by a number of series impacts on the health of the river basin system.

ii) Alternation in the hydrology and geomorphology of streams as well as the deterioration of it's water quality are the most determined effects identified due to urbanization
