Name of the activity :
Exam in the pH of various water sources in the village or area.
Purpose/importance of the activity :
i) To know the elements which affect the pH of water.
ii) To know the elements important for water pH.
Proposed time duration for the activity :
A week i.e. is 7 to 8 days.
Materials and apparatus required for the activity :
Paper , pen, book, pencil, samples of water for pH examining.
Methodology of the activity:
i) pH (potential of hydrogen of water).
ii) Depending on the amount of acidic or alkaline substances
mixed in the water, we have a measure of pH, a universal
indicator is used for measurement of pH.
iii) The numbers of 0 to 14 on the given scale are indicated by different
coloured marks, it indicate the amount of acidic substance decreases
from 0 to 7 and increases alkaline substance from 1 to 14 and 7 number
indicates neutral pH. e.g. rainwater, running water pH levels are
generally 6.5 to 8.5.
iv) Groundwater pH levels, however range from 6.0 to 8.5. higher the
level of ions of iron, manganese, copper, lead, zinc in the water, that
water is more acidic in nature. Search water causes rust on metals, stains
on clothes, its consumption harms human health conversely, an increase
in calcium carbonate leads to an increase in salinity.
v) pH of some substances:
Apple juice: 3
Soap water: 10
Diagrams / Photographs of the Activity:
Water pH metre
Concepts Learnt During the Activity:
i)pH,
ii)acid,
iii)base indicator,
iv)neutral,
v)universal
indicator.
What New Things did you Learn ?
How to examine pH of water and how to maintain its
quality.
Conclusion:
By examining the pH of water from where is region we can get good
quality water.
Your Own Opinion/Experience about the Activity:
pH water from various regions can be different for various uses of
water, good quality water is required.
Cooperation from the parents :
I took help from my parents while obtaining pH.
Opinion of the parents:
Good quality water is required for our health and for
various work, therefore to examine the pH of water is
necessary.
