Name of the Project :
To study catchment area and suggest some measures for development.
Needs / Importance of the project :
A healthy water catchment provides high quality drinking water and
supports livelihoods such as agriculture recreational angling and water
sports. It also supports local ecosystem so plants animals fish and insects
that depend on healthy food and water.
Hypothesis :
Catchment provide people, stock and flora and fauna with
drinking water.
Materials and Apparatus :
Pen and book for collecting information and useful data.
Work Plan :
i) Take a visit to the catchment area nearby.
ii) Understand different uses of the catchment area.
iii) Know advantages and its disadvantages.
Description of Actual Procedure:
i) Observing the catchment area in our surroundings involves
understanding of erosion, characteristics of the catchment, and
suggesting remedial measures to reduce erosion rate.
ii) A catchment area is an area of land usually surrounded by mountains
or hills over which water flows .
iii) It is also called as drainage area , river basin in watershed.
iv) The flowing water accumulates on a plane area known as catchment.
Observations:
In the catchment area there is a very large plane in the upstream part
of the river known as Mechuka plain where slope of river bed and
velocity of water are very low.
Most of the slits get deposited there various data layers used for
study as follows :
i) Drainage map
ii) Slope map
iii) Land use map
iv) Soil erosion intensity map.
