(3) How is water used for agriculture ?
Ans.
i) In rural areas , water is used to a great extent by farmers for
agricultural irrigation.
ii) At many places water is used in access quantities for agricultural
irrigation .
iii) According to the principal of " water is needed for the crop , not
for the whole land " water must be used sparingly.
(4) Which area needs maximum water ?
Ans.
Agriculture based industries like sugar factories ,
factories including fruit processing and non agricultural
industries such as dams , roads , water for human
settlements , various factories , etc. needed more water.
(5) Explain the relationship between water and fishing business.
Ans.
i) Fishing is practiced extensively in seas as well as in creeks , dams , rivers ,
lakes and various reservoirs.
ii) Fishing business generates huge financial turnover on the coast as well as
in many port areas.
iii) In Maharashtra , fishing is done by producing fish seeds / eggs in small
and big dams.
iv) For this fishing business what is required , without water its not possible .
(6) Why is the water transport used in many places in the world ?
Ans.
i) Waterways are formed naturally. It costs nothing to build or repair.
ii) 71 percent of the earth is covered by water , water transportation will
develop in the future .
iii) Transportation is done by ships or boots. Fuel requirement is also
low.
(7) State the commercial use of water .
Ans.
i) Tourism business is one of the important businesses in India.
It's share in the economy is increasing day-by-day.
ii) Tourist places near water bodies like waterfalls , gardens
near rivers , seashores , lakes with musical fountains and
boating facilities , etc. are the prime attractions for tourists in
India.
(8) Explain the relationship between environmental protection
and water .
Ans.
i) All living organisms need water to drink . Crops , plants and
trees in the forests also need water. There is no life without water.
ii) Soil and rock formations are also affected by water.
iii) Water alone maintains the balance of all the organic-inorganic
elements in nature.
